My brain runneth over with new design ideas, but there is a lot to be said for revisiting and refreshing oldies. Several of my summer patterns received this treatment in 2024 - new yarn, different colours & stripes, and you have a whole different vibe with exactly the same pattern.
My original Hey Now Sweater had a double layered turtleneck, 4 contrast colours, colourwork on the cuffs and a split hem. Sounds a bit overkill when I write it out like that, but it was a lovely sweater I’ve worn every Winter since 2019. Regardless, it was a prime candidate for a facelift. With a single contrast colour, single layer neckband, no colourwork on the sleeves and 1x1 rib edgings all around, this updated version feels more minimal and I love it in a different way. Credit to my friend Kyliana for this one - she whipped up the sample whilst I cracked on with other WIPs.
My pattern phrasing and formatting have evolved considerably since February 2020 when this pattern was released so I’ve re-done the whole lot. Including adding the most important element of any knitting pattern: a colouring in page.
Sidenote: I’m not entirely sure how Feb 2020 was ALMOST 5 YEARS AGO? Does not compute.
The shiny new version of the Hey Now Sweater pattern is now available in all the usual places, and use code OHHEYTHERE for 10% off via Ravelry & Payhip.
Discount ends midnight GMT on Friday 24th January.
Matchy matchy
I’m undecided whether matching my hat to my sweater is chic or toddler-esque but I couldn’t pass up the opportunity. My Checkerplate Hat used the same AXIS by Lily Kate yarn in shade Neutrino, which is one of my favourites of the range if it wasn’t evident.
Latest on YouTube
On the topic of Checkerplate patterns, my most recent YouTube video is a deep-dive into my recently released Checkerplate Sweater. Techniques, construction, why it was graded the way it was, all the geeky details. In my head this was going to be a fairly short & snappy video but it turns out I can talk about a single sweater for 27 minutes. Hopefully the topics covered - yarn choices for textured knits, which size to make when you’re in between sizes - prove generally useful for other patterns too.
Happy knitting!

IMO - doesn’t matter if it’s chic or toddleresque or whether I like it. Do you feel amazing it? is the real question. BTW - the hat and sweater look great on you. 😊
